Poker News - All the results and news mainly for the Melbourne championships

May2008

Warning: your next poker partner may be a bot!

Welcome to the 3rd newsletter for 2008 from Poker Face. The 2008 Melbourne championships are currently running at Crown poker room at the moment. With the table limits moved to 2/3 on NL TH since January, there have been less novice players at the tables (they are now on the poker pro 1/2 NL TH). In our opinion the tables are tougher during the day (mainly very experienced players) but looser in the evenings and especially weekends.

Star City Poker tables. Well I thought Crown was a bit stiff charging a $5 time charge (Most casino's around the world only take a vig/rake from the pot) until I recently visited Star City. Not only is the casino the ugliest I have ever seen ( Romania has more class!) but the worst for playing poker. Each player pays $1 for each hand (time) plus both small and big blind are the same at $5.00. Therefore every revolution of the button you will pay $19.00. With an average 30 hands per hour you would lose $65.00 if you didn't get a hand during that period - Ouch!

Elements for a Successful Poker Bluff

Because bluffing is such a well known Poker strategy, a lot of players, especially online, like to try it out, only to see it called frequently. The problem is that while the concept is simple enough, there are a lot of elements that players fail to consider.

The first thing that you have to take into account when it comes to bluffing is that of the table itself. Not only do you have to consider whether it is very tight or loose, but also the number of Poker players still in the game. Obviously, the more players in the table, the more difficulty you will have in pulling of a bluff.

Before you try to bluff someone in a poker game try to remove as many players as possible from the hand. This will increase the odds of the bluff being successful. Of course, you must also be certain that the player you are going to try it against is susceptible to it. If he is loose or a calling station, then bluffing will not work.

When considering a bluff, try to check raise as often as you can. This is a tactic that players with monster hands usually employ and by doing it before you bluff will help sell it. Another way would be to call during the flop.

Of course, you should be wary of were you stand. If you are in early position, then be careful if somebody raises. For this reason, a lot of Poker strategies about bluffing often place emphasis on your position.

Another thing that one must take into account when it comes to Poker bluffing is that of how often it can be repeated. A lot of players only use it once; trying to pull it off repeatedly will result it a lot of calls.

However, there are those who believe that because people will not expect you to try it twice, it may be worth a try. It can pull off some surprises, as it is totally unexpected. Of course, if you want to try it several times, make sure that the circumstances are also proper.

These are some of the most important elements that one needs in order to pull a successful Poker bluff. Of course, the requirements may change depending on the game situation.

However, knowing the basic requirements will help you adjust to whatever kind of circumstance that you may find yourself in.

Caro's Book of Poker Tells

Sooner or later you will hear about a poker book called "Caro's Book of Poker Tells." It is one of the most widely read poker books of all time and every serious player is expected to be familiar it. Caro's Book of Tells is the "bible" of poker tells - those patterns in a poker player's behavior that give you clues about what kind of hand they may be holding. If you want to know about poker tells, read Caro's masterpiece.
