Aussies launch assault on World Series of Poker
For immediate release: Thursday, July 5, 2006
The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is the equivalent of the Olympic Games, or World Cup for poker players. Last year, Joe Hachem became the first Australian to win the championship event at the WSOP.
With the 2006 main event just three weeks away, more than 200 Australians will be in Las Vegas to chase the ultimate poker dream, and the first prize of more than $US10 million. In edition two of Bluff Australasia magazine, the 2006 WSOP takes centre stage with an unrivalled preview of the greatest event on the poker calendar. Headlining our preview feature is an exclusive chat with the man widely regarded as poker’s ‘Godfather’, two-time WSOP champion Doyle Brunson. But our local contingent of players haven’t been left out – Hachem spoke to us just before leaving for the USA to defend his title on what it will take to repeat his stunning victory.
The Bluff Australasia team have also chatted with a selection of Aussie hopefuls who are hoping to emulate Hachem’s success – some aspiring pros, others satellite qualifiers on the trip of a lifetime. If it’s happening at the WSOP, you’ll find it in this edition of Bluff Australasia. Earlier this week, Sydney’s Mark Vos became just the fifth Aussie to win a WSOP bracelet when he triumphed in the $2000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event, which earned the 22-year-old a cool $US800, 000. Fortuitously, this edition of Bluff Australasia features an enthralling insight into Vos, rightly recognised as one of the world’s best young players. Edition two also features all the reports and results from the recent Melbourne Hold’em Championships, up-to-date Poker Network player ratings the latest news from the burgeoning club and poker circuit plus several new sections and columns in response to feedback from readers. “We were delighted to see the first edition reached not only the poker players who’ve been loyal to the sport for so long, but to the newcomers who’ve recently discovered poker via TV or through one of the many pub or club-based competitions,” publisher Alan Hyman said.
• Bluff Australasia is available in all newsagents around Australia. Edition two will also be available in New Zealand. RRP $6.95. For interviews or more information, contact Alan Hyman on (02) 9966 4888 or Sean Callander on (03) 9863 8224.
